BROOKFIELD ZOO/CHICAGO ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY CATERED EVENTS GREEN INITITIATIVE

Brookfield Zoo, which is managed by the Chicago Zoological Society, has established the mission to inspire conservation leadership by connecting people with wildlife and nature.
- Brookfield Zoo, which is managed by the Chicago Zoological Society, has established the mission to inspire conservation leadership by connecting people with wildlife and nature.
- The zoo strives to ensure that this message is clearly communicated to all our guests, from our animal exhibits through our Catered Events experiences, all of which are designed to inspire a new generation of conservation leaders.
- At Brookfield Zoo, we want our picnics to be as eco-friendly as possible. We use disposables products that are made of recyclable materials such as bamboo and sugarcane paper plates. We’ve also installed single-pull napkin dispensers which have greatly reduced our napkin usage.
- Brookfield Zoo’s Catered Events Department recently named Trinity Oaks their new house wine purveyor. Their “One Bottle, One Tree” initiative plants one tree for every bottle of house wine that is purchased at Brookfield Zoo.
- Our Executive Chef and his staff have
throughout the park. This allows them to create and prepare the freshest foods as well as ensure that local, organic herbs are used whenever possible. Fresh Organic Herb Gardens
- Brookfield Zoo has its own Greenhouse that maintains and provides fresh ivy baskets and other seasonal plants for event décor that can used and reused time and again.
- The Brookfield Zoo Catered Events team encourages florists to design centerpieces made of flowers and fruits. After an event, zoo animals can eat and enjoy these leftover treats.
- Through our Catered Events Preferred Vendor Program, we work with companies that commit to also incorporating a green business plan into their operations.
- Brookfield Zoo is committed to offering sustainable seafood at our Catered Events. We use Blue Ocean Institute’s Guide to Ocean Friendly Seafood to ensure we’re choosing ocean-friendly seafood and you can too! Go to www.blueocean.org for more information choosing sustainable seafood.
- Hosting an event at Brookfield Zoo supports Education and Conservation programs and initiatives locally and throughout the world. It also allows clients to feel they are spending their event dollars wisely during a time when budgets are tighter and lets groups ensure their events have a lasting impression on their guests… and not the environment!
